Tax exemptions on fertilisers, textiles to stayNov 09, 2002: New Delhi: The Kelkar panel on indirect tax has decided to recommend continuation of exemptions on few items where a time bound schedule is already in place in conformity with international agreements. In this regard the lower excise duty on textiles may continue, despite the expert panel recommending phaseing out of exemptions. The lower 12 % excise duty on textiles will continue till 2005 on account of the multifibre agreement, instead of the 16 % duty on most items, the panel’s member secretary SM Bhatnagar said at a seminar. Two apparel parks for Tamil NaduNov 15, 2002: New Delhi: The Centre has given its clearance for the setting of two more apparel parks would be located at in Tamil Nadu - Tirupur and Irugontakottai-Kancheepuram. Earlier, approvals were made for apparel parks at Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Surat and Tronica city in Ghaziabad. This is the first time such parks are being sanctioned for Tamil Nadu since the apparel park scheme was formally launched in March this year. JCT's naylon yarn plant of BarodaNov 19, 2002: In the first major consolidation in the RS 700 crore nylon yarn industry, the Thapar group Company, JCT is taking over the nylon yarn plant of Baroda Rayon in Surat. With this, JCT will emerge as the largest nylon textile yarn manufacturer in the country. According to the MD of JCT it has entered into a long-term agreement with Baroda Rayon. The raw materials, packing materials, quality norms and the final product will also belong to JCT. The assets and liabilities will continue to remain with Baroda Rayon. The advantage to Baroda Rayon is that the plant will start running now and they will also earn a fee.
