Sotware exports to Sweden may touch dollar 40 mSep 02, 2002: New Delhi: India’s software exports to Sweden are expected to touch 40 million US dollars in 2002-2003 on the demand for data security, wireless application and telecom services, according to a Nassocom estimation. `Indian software and service exports to Sweden in 2001 was 25.26 million US dollars and the exports for 2002-2003 is expected to touch 40 million US dollars, Sangeeta Gupta, Nassocom vice-president said on Sunday. Bare bone computer below Rs.17,000Sep 03, 2002: New Delhi: IT hardware company Microtek on Monday said it has test-launched its new bare bone computer in Orissa and Maharashtra states. The computer is priced below Rs.17,000 and the company plans to commercially launch the systems within a month after seeing the response, said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of the company. The bare bone computer includes a monitor, cabinet, mother board, keyboard, speaker, mouse and a UPS, but excludes a CPU, hardware disk drive, floppy disk drive, CD drive and a random access memory (RAM). Under the agreement, Hypersoft would develop products and services, which would be available on PDA (palm hand held) devices. These products would combine Odyssey Software programmes and integrate them in the applications. JNTU, Jackson Varsity ink pactSep 06, 2002: Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) signed a memorandum of understanding with Jackson State University (JSU), USA, for academic collaboration and faculty exchange here on Wednesday. The MoU was signed between JSU president Dr Ron Mason and JNTU vice-chancellor Dr Y Venkatarami Reddy. As part of the academic collaboration, joint graduate, undergraduate and scholarship programme in information technology, compouter science and engineering degrees, e-Research and action research in science between JNTU and JSU would be undertaken, Reddy said. MTNL to diversify into IT servicesSep 07, 2002: New Delhi: Anticipating shrinking revenues from its cellular operations, Mahanagar Telephones Nigam Ltd on Friday said they would diversify into information technology-related services. Internet exchanges proposed to boost servicesSep 10, 2002: New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday recommended establishment of Internet exchange points and said the Internet service providers should be considered at par with telecom infrastructure. To begin with, theTRAI suggested four Internet exchange points in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai which will be interconnected. The exchanges to be called `National Internet Exchange of India’ would lead to reduction in the cost of Internet connections, said a release.
BSNL launches webfone cardsSep 13, 2002: Hyderabad: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd launched its Website Internet Telephony card in the city on Thursday. The card allows users to make international calls from a personal computer at Rs.4.50 per minute.The Principal General Manager of Hyderabad District Telecom J Balakrishna told press persons that website cards would be available in three denominations of Rs.210 (valid for six months), Rs.525 (valid for seven months) and Rs.1,050 (valid for 10 months). The cards could be bought from 11 outlets of BSNL in the city. The New-Jersey based company could end up with about one-third the works force it had in 2001, analysts said.
Microsoft probes Word flawSep 15, 2002: San Francisco: Microsoft said it was investigating a security flaw in its word processing software that could allow an attacker to steal sensitive computer files by using Word document. Based on the flaws uncovered by security experts, an attacker could send a Word document to an intended victim, asking that they modify and return it. A secret code in the document could be used to grab files on the victim’s computer and would then be transferred to the attacker along with the original document, a statement said.
