Britain opens its doors to Indian doctors

Apr 20, 2002: London: Thousands of senior resident Indian doctors in Britain could benefit from a new initiative launched by the UK government to induct medical specialists directly from the sub-continent into permanent posts in British hospitals.

The ongoing initiative to recruit doctors working in India directly to UK consultant posts in psychiatry, radiology, cancer, cardiology and histopathology will end years of alleged discrimination against Indians, whose training and experience back home has so far been disregarded when they applied for the top jobs.

Apollo to set up hospital in Ahmedabad

Apr 26, 2002: New Delhi: Apollo Group today announced that it would invest Rs.130 crores for setting up a hospital in Ahmedabad that would be operational from August this year.

`We are setting up our own hospital in Ahmedabad at an investment of Rs.130 crores. The hospital would start functioning from August’, chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals, Pratap C Reddy, said here.

Doctors to be appointed on contract basis

Apr 26, 2002: Kakinada: Health Minister Dr N Janardhan Reddy said today that the Government would take steps for filling up ofdoctors’ posts in the State on contract basis. At a press conference at R & B Guest House here, Dr Reddy said that committees comprising district collectors and district medical & health officers (DM & HOs) were already formed for the appointment of doctors.

Doctors appointed to work in tribal areas would get Rs.15,000 and those in non-tribal areas get Rs.12,000 per month consolidated payment, he said.

Apollo Hospital in Colombo

Apr 27, 2002: Chennai: A state-of-the-art multi speciality hospital under the banner Apollo Hospitals, Colombo will be inaugurated shortly, according to Pratap C. Reddy, chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group.

The hospital in Colombo is being established at the behest of several thousands of patients who have passed through the portals ofApollo Hospitals in Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi since 1983. The hospital will not only cater to the needs of the people of Sri Lanka but also of those from neighbouring regions, Reddy said.
