Babu inaugurates Balayogi bridge

Oct 02, 2002: Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated the `Balayogi Varadhi’ constructed on river Godavari between Yanam and Yedurulanka at a cost of Rs.110 crore. The bridge serves as a road link between Konaseema and other areas in the state and will help local businessmen, Naidu said.

Warangal to offer tourism package

Oct 03, 2002: Warangal: District collector K Prabhakar Reddy announced the speeding up of a tourism package for Warangal. The package contemplated to highlight the importance of the historic city of Kakatiya dynasty would be implemented in a comprehensive way.

The package would cover improvement of road network in the Warangal Fort area initially and it would be followed up with the sprucing up several existing tourism spots in the city, he said.

CD on Manasa Sarovar released

Oct 06, 2002: Hyderabad: A compact disc (CD) on Manasa Sarovar Kailasa Yatra producedby Jeeyar Educational Trust, was released at its premises at Domalaguda here on Saturday.

Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji along with 64 followers visited Manasa Sarovar and Kailasa Parvatam in June and July this year.

The CD presents a vivid account of the tour, capturing the magnificient charm and beauty of nature and explaining the religious aspects of the place.

Tirupati dresses up for Brahmotsavams

Oct 07, 2002: Tirupati: Nearly one million devotees of Lord Venkateswara are expected to throng the temple town of Tirumala to participate in the Brahmotsavam which begins here on Monday. The festivities will be held at Tirumala temple adhering to the tenets laid down in sastras and puranas.

The temple administration has erected a number of decorative arches and illuminated the entire town. The Tirumala temple complex, guest houses and streets were illuminated befitting the mega event.

Auto fares to go up by 50 paise per km

Oct 09, 2002: Hyderabad: The autorickshaw fare in the twin cities is likely to go up by 50 paise per km shortly. A recommendation to this effect was made by the Transport department to the State government. The minimum fare is proposed to be increased from Rs.7 to Rs.7.50 and thereafter, the fare will go up by 50 paise for every km.

`We have sent the proposal to the government, following a number of representations by auto rickshaw unions keeping in view the hefty increase in petrol and diesel rates in recent months’, Transport commissioner A Giridhar told media persons.

British Airways plans direct services from city

Oct 11, 2002: Hyderabad: British Airways (BA) plans to start direct services from the city to the United Kingdom (UK). It will start three flights in a week, if it decides to operate from here.

BA is also planning to start an additional 19 flights from India immediately and another 10 flights within three years. It has got clearance for the same from the British government

Maruti to unveil diesel variants

Oct 12, 2002: New Delhi: Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) is all set to drive into the diesel car segment in a big-way. The company is being forced to think in these lines following the petrol prices showing no signs of a fall in recent months.

Managing director Jagadish Khattar told a press team from Chennai `It is high time that we looked into the option of rolling out a fully indigenised Maruti diesel car. Since Suzuki does not have the diesel engine technology, Maruti is now using Peugeot engines for the diesel versions of Zen and Esteem’.

Work in progress for Teppotsavam

Oct 14, 2002: Vijayawada: The Sri Durga malleswara Devasthanam has made elaborate arrangements for the Teppotsavam on the final day of Dasara. Keeping in view the bitter experience last year, when a boat got wrecked due to explosion of fire crackers on river Krishna, the Devasthanam officials along with police, revenue and tourism department personnel, are taking precautionary measures for smooth conduct of the event.

More IA flights to Mumbai, Tirupati

Oct 24, 2002: Hyderabad: Indian Airlines will be operating additional flight services to Tirupati and Mumbai from Hyderabad from Sunday onwards, as its winter schedule comes into force.

Tirupati will now have three flights instead of two per week from Hyderabad. An A-320 flight IC-943 will operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays to Tirupati from Hyderabad with new timings. On the Hyderabad-Mumbai sector, the IA will operate four flights daily at 8.15 a.m., 2.30 p.m. 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. instead of three flights, says an IA press release.

Silk Air adds to H'bad air traffic competition

Oct 25, 2002: Hyderabad: Competition for flying the increasing traffic of travellers from AP bound for the US west coast and Southeast Asia is hotting up with Silk Air slated to join the fray later this month with three flights a week.

Already, Malaysian Airlines and Air-India are engaged in a war of dominance on this Hyderabad-US route (via SE destinations like Singapore and Kualalumpur).

Silk Air, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, which is commencing its operations to Hyderabad from October 30, proposes to increase the frequency to four flights a week.
